Our Process
At Maranatha Aviaries, we aim to make the process of purchasing your next family member as simple and stress-free as possible. We want everyone, whether new or repeat customer, to feel comfortable to make the right choices for their situation with as much support and information that they need. We aim for complete transparency and feel privileged to be able to show you 'behind the curtain', so you are just as much involved in raising the babies the whole way through as we are!

01
touch base
Don't be shy, say hi! We are happy to chat on Facebook messenger, text message or a phone call. Let us know what you're looking for, whether it be a certain species, gender, colour or the kind of companion you might want to have in your home. Ask all those burning questions, and continue researching and absorbing! We have many important articles on the website that are a great starting point to learn the importance of diet, enrichment, self care, plus many DIY recipes and tutorials.
02
waitING lists
During the off-season (April - August) you're welcome to put your name down for the coming season, if you would like to be updated when babies start hatching in spring.
Our waiting list is an expression of interest with no obligation to purchase, we will simply send you a few messages to check in and see if you are still interested in adding a new member to your family. If a specific colour or gender is a deciding factor for you, please let us know!

03
deposits
Once you've decided on your colour and gender preferences, we can proceed to placing a non-refundable deposit. A deposit ensures your "position in the queue", and shows your commitment to us and to your new baby. We will only take a deposit if we know that your colour preferences are possible with the pairings for this season, then keep you updated when the babies hatch that are the colours you're looking for.
Some colours sell out faster than others, or are harder to produce, so a deposit for some colours is wise - however we don't wish for anyone to ever feel pressured to pay a deposit.

We are more than happy for you to pay off your baby in instalments if that is easiest, and you will get a receipt for each payment received with a running total, so its easy for both of us to be on the same page!
04
Keep up with Socials
We like to keep everyone linked in with what's happening during breeding season, so be sure to check out our Stories and Posts on Facebook and Instagram. It is the best place to see photos and videos of all the birds before you've picked a specific bird for your family. We like to keep it light and funny, so there is plenty of nonsense and shenanigans to keep you entertained while you get your baby picture fix. We reckon it's just so special to show you the whole process from egg to baby, and our customers think so too!

Visiting us
If you have the privilege of living in the south-east corner of Queensland, you are most welcome to come visit us when we have babies in for hand-raising. We find that even visiting once while your baby is growing, makes the transition process so much easier when it comes to heading home and settling into their new environment. Allow for about 1 - 1.5 hours to play, chat and snuggle!

To ensure the health and safety of all our birds, we ask that you only visit one breeder or pet shop on the day of your appointment, and please don't bring any animals to our property. Our babies have immature immune systems and we need to do all we can to reduce the spread of disease and parasites. We will also ask you to wash and sanitise your hands before handling the birds.
06
taking baby home
We know that the wait can be the most agonising part of the process, but we promise its for the best! Use this time to get your cage ordered and set up, branches foraged and cleaned, food and toys purchased. Meanwhile, we will make sure your baby is learning how to play with toys, stepping up, learning to recall, and eat proper food. It is so important that this process is not rushed, as weaning is just as much psychological and emotional as it is physical.

Our babies are ready to go home from a minimum of 12 weeks for conures and quakers, and 10 weeks for Bourke's parrots. If your baby is being freighted, we usually need a few extra weeks as a buffer.
